01
Fur Trade documents
The Hudson Bay Company Archives and the Voyageur Data Base are places you can check for your Ancestor to confirm if they were a voyageur, NWest Co. employ or Hudson Bay Co. employ and where and when.
02
Historic Treaty Annuity Paylists
TREATY ANNUITY PAYLISTS are key to finding out if your ancestors were Treaty. You could have indigenous ancestors who did not take Treaty; some Treaty Ancestors also discharged from Treaty to take NW Half Breed Scrip or Metis Scrip as we call it today. Usually the Scrip would have an attachment to it that the individual was discharged from Treaty and would indicate their Band and number.

03
North West Half Breed Scrip
Half breed Scrip or Metis Scrip can be found at Library & Archives Canada. Bring up the search engine in ... and plug in the name of the Ancestor in question as well as indicating its "Scrip" that you want to pull up.
04
Residential School Records
The Truth & Reconciliation Commission does searches at free of charge. But you can also check their website for general records on each of the schools and some even have lists of children in attendance at the school during certain years. Not everything though is displayed on line.
